Phal. 'Valentine' spike? (edited)

I am somewhat unsure if this is a spike or root at the moment, but it's starting to show signs of being a spike: mitten 'sectioning', no velum, and much less tender flesh than a new root.  October, November, and December is also "spike season", further solidifying that this may be a spike.

This will be the first time blooming since purchase and a solid sign that this phal has recovered from its sunburn.

EDIT:
One week has passed and I am now 100% sure it is a spike! I have inserted a metal rod and rubber band, ready to steak the spike when the time comes.

Phal "Valentine" progress after sunburn.

It has been about 1 year since Phal Valentine has been sunburned, but is progressively getting better!  The growth is rather vigorous  too! The picture above is about 1 week old and within that time, the baby leaf has doubled in size. I have previously mentioned the need for new roots and the orchid gods have listened. 5 new root tips have emerged and are anchoring themselves.  I plan to cut off the woody, brown, hard roots when the new ones finish growing.

Last years sunburn.

New green roots next to older, woody, brown roots.

Phal. NoID "Valentine" recovering from sunburn

This phal is special to me, as it was a gift from my boyfriend on Valentines Day one year ago (hence the name) .

As seen by the thin, black, and cut out parts, this poor phal was sunburned. I placed it temporarily outside on a warm, overcast, spring day while I was doing a thorough cleaning of my room. It was in shade, and well watered so I would never expect it to become sunburned or parched. Sadly, that is what happened but is is making a rather good recovery. I let it be, and kept care as close to normal as possible. Im sure that this plant knows what its doing.
One new leaf has grown since then and Im hoping for a few new roots soon.

Woody, most likely dead aerial roots - awaiting new ones :3

A picture from one year ago, showing buds and the phal's pretty pink & white colors.
